{hiatus}

Hi there! If you haven't noticed... I've been slacking in my posting. Sorry!

Here are a some of the things that are preventing my regular posting:

Baby Proofing.
Jacob is starting to crawl and learned how to open cabinet doors and I've been dreading putting gates and knobs around the house but we have no choice now. Until I actually get around to it, I have to stay on top of him!

Teething.
Jacob's has yet to cut even one little chomper. The little guy has some painful days with interrupted naps lately but he's been a trooper. He's turning 8 months this week so maybe they'll decide to make an appearance soon.

New Job.
Dearest husband started a new job two weeks ago and we're adjusting to his new schedule.

My Pesty Little Health
Don't worry it is nothing life threatening
but I have to address some things in the coming weeks so I can be on top of things once more.

An Awful Discovery.
I've been informed that the search terms for my blog name yield some awful results.
Don't test it.
I apologize if you already have.
Let's just say it has to do with the adult industry.
So now I am coming up with a plan to tackle this issue. Stay tuned!

I'll leave you for now but I promise to return shortly.

xoxo

{like mother}

I had a wonderful Mother's Day in New Hope, PA
with my awesome family.
It was great to spend the day with my hubby, Jacob,
my mom, and both of my brothers.

New Hope is a quaint little town about 45 minutes away from our home.
They have interesting shops like Tear Drop Memories
where you can find anything from a pet bed to an antique (and likely used) coffin.

...and dolls in cages

... and a large bird cage selection,

... and miniature animals,

Creepy, right? I was so creeped out I made my mom walk in front of me.
I didn't dare take pictures of the coffins.
There's plenty of fun stuff in New Hope that doesn't involve coffins, though.
Lots of handmade, unique items: jewelry, clothes, home decor.
And food. Yum.

Anyway...

I made sure to get a picture with my boy on my first Mother's Day...
It took many tries but here's the best one:

... and it was only appropriate that on Mother's Day
I was reminded that I am my mother's daughter.

Check out how similar we look... mannerisms and all.

Too funny.
Oh and I want to brag about my handsome brothers too.
Look at them!

Jacob will be an outstanding athlete thanks to Uncle Fo on the left
and  star singer/dancer/actor because of Uncle Adrian on the right.

He also has uncles that musicians and engineers
and a photographer on Phil's side of the family.
So the boy is going to be a renaissance man if you ever did see one.
I'm off on a tangent.
More about Jacob's already established future another time.

All in all it was a an absolute grand first Mother's Day. I already can't wait for next year!

PS: I'm linking to Emily's blog today.

{bl. jp ii loves us, ladies}

Thank you, women who are mothers! You have sheltered human beings
within yourselves in a unique experience of joy and travail.
This experience makes you become God's own smile upon the newborn child,
the one who guides your child's first steps, who helps it to grow,
and who is the anchor as the child makes its way along the journey of life.

This is beautiful. That is all.
(Well... maybe I have a little bit more to say)
As I sit here late at night after a day of caring for an increasingly energetic little boy
I read JPII's words and he puts my vocation as a mother into graceful terms.
Joy? Yes, indeed.
Travail? You bet ya!
I too often ask myself:
How does this little person's most basic needs require so much of my own energy?
Feeding. Changing. Playing. Sleeping.
Feeding. Changing. Playing. Sleeping.
 Feeding. Changing. Playing. Sleeping.
Sounds easy, doesn't it? For some reason its so demanding.
It results in exhaustion. I can't even see straight right now.
But you know what?
Jacob smiles when he sees me and puts his arms out for me to hold him.
Sure its tiring.
But I feel such happiness inside to have this little boy be mine.
So Happy that I can't help but smile.
God's smile, says JPII.

 Happy Tuesday!

{party planning}

If you are anything like me, you l.o.v.e party planning.
Also, one of your idols is Martha Stewart.
Minus the whole jail thing, of course.
She (read: her team of people) has a way of making everything seamlessly beautiful.
I want to be like her when I grow up.
I'm spending this week preparing for a celebration of life
in honor of my sister-in-law's fourth little guy coming in June.
Even though I'm not calling it a "baby shower" because,
well, it is more of a celebration a new life,
I am consulting Martha's shower planning checklist.
Basic and handy.
Our party will be a small crowd of awesome women who love babies
which allows us to focus on pretty little details.
My other sister-in-law is helping me.
She brought over her collection of milk glass vases yesterday.
I've already said too much.
That's the only detail I'm releasing.

Stay tuned for pictures next week!

PS: How pretty is that fabric garland from Twig & Thistle.
I might just have to add it to my list of things to make for Saturday.

{oh so vain}

I have another little project to share with you!
This one is very easy and I love it. I hope you will too.
I made a cork board frame for my necklaces.

I don't have step-by-step directions for it because... well, because its very simple.

All you have to do is:
Grab a cork board and paint the frame.
Then stick little hanging hooks into it for your necklaces look pretty on!

I also needed an excuse to drink a lot of wine
so I decided to use empty bottles as bracelet holders.
It was a sacrifice but, hey, it was worth it.

The jewelry box is from they who can do no wrong, Anthropologie.

My vanity was my wedding gift from Phil.
He found it on Craigslist and had it waiting in our bedroom
when we came home from our reception.
I absolutely love it.
The sides open up for storage so I keep the fancier things in there.

The sitting stool is my favorite piece of furniture in the entire world.
Phil bought it at Pier1 Imports. The tag that came with it says it was made in India.
I just love the colors and patterns and the seat's slight curve.
Isn't it beautiful? He knows me so well.

If you need help drinking wine for your bracelets, please don't hesitate to email me.
I'd be glad to lend hand.

Happy weekend!

{embrace the zoo}

We took Jacob to the zoo last Friday.
I think we enjoyed watching him a bit more than he actually enjoyed the zoo.
Its amazing to watch a little person see things for the first time ever.

Look at him! What a ham! I think he was looking at the black bears.
I was too busy looking at him looking at the black bears.

He was beat by the end of our trip... as was his papa.

So happy they let me take pictures of them.
I see so much more resemblance in pictures than in real person.
I love noticing their similarities.

What about you? Have you embraced the camera?
